Laser Assisted Hatching

What is Assisted Hatching?

Assisted Hatching is a process in which a small opening is made artificially in the zona pellucida, which is the outer layer surrounding an embryo. This process of coming out of this shell is essential before implantation.

Techniques of Assisted hatching?

There are several methods for breaching the Zona including

A.

Mechanical Hatching – Using a needle to puncture or tear the zona.

B.

Chemical Hatching – A small area of zona pellucida is dissolved using a chemical.

C.

Laser Assisted Hatching (LAH) – A precision laser beam is used to make a controlled opening.

This technique is preferred due to its minimal embryo handling and high precision.

Who may benefit from LAH?

Your doctor may recommended LAH if

A.

Patient is > 35 years old.

B.

Couple have had previous failed IVF cycles.

C.
