How to Choose an IVF Centre in Punjab: 10 Things Patients Should Check

Choosing an IVF centre is one of the most important decisions a couple will make on their fertility journey. With so many clinics now offering fertility treatment across Punjab, it can be difficult to know what actually matters — and what is just marketing.

Rather than telling you who to choose, this guide outlines the key factors that genuinely affect IVF outcomes, so you can evaluate any clinic — including ours — with confidence and ask the right questions before you begin treatment.

1. Doctor Qualification

IVF outcomes start with the person making the clinical decisions. Look for a fertility specialist with recognised postgraduate qualifications in reproductive medicine (such as MD/MS in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, followed by a fellowship or DM/MCh in Reproductive Medicine), and ask how many years they have practiced specifically in infertility care — not general gynaecology. A specialist who deals with complex fertility cases daily will approach your treatment differently than someone for whom IVF is a small part of a broader practice.

Questions to ask: What is the doctor’s specific qualification in reproductive medicine? How many years have they focused on infertility treatment?

2. ART Registration

Every fertility clinic in India offering IVF, IUI, or relate procedures is required to be register under the Assist Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act. This registration confirms that the clinic meets basic legal, ethical, and clinical standards set by the government.

Questions to ask: Is the clinic ART-register? Can the registration certificate be shown or verify?

3. Lab Infrastructure

The embryology lab is where fertilisation and embryo development actually happen, and its quality has a direct impact on results. Relevant factors include the type and number of incubators, air-quality and filtration systems, backup power arrangements, and how the lab is monitor day to day. A well-equipped lab reduces variability and protects embryos at every stage.

Questions to ask: What incubator technology is use? Is there a backup power system in case of outages? How is the lab environment monitor and control?

4. Embryologist Experience

The embryologist handles your eggs, sperm, and embryos in the lab — their skill and experience are just as important as the treating doctor’s. A transparent clinic should be able to tell you their embryologist’s qualification, years of clinical embryology experience, and whether they are full-time at that specific centre or share/visiting across multiple clinics.

Questions to ask: What is the embryologist’s qualification and experience? Are they full-time at this centre?

5. Transparent Outcomes

Be cautious of clinics that only advertise a single, impressive-sounding success percentage without explaining how it was calculate. Genuine transparency means clearly stating what is being measure — for example, clinical pregnancy rate versus live birth rate per embryo transfer — since these are different outcomes and only live birth reflects a baby actually being born.

Questions to ask: Is the published rate a pregnancy rate or a live birth rate? Over what time period and patient group was it calculate?

6. Age-Specific Success Data

IVF success is heavily influence by a woman’s age, so a single overall success percentage can be misleading. A clinic that shares outcomes broken down by age group (for example, under 35, 35–40, above 40) is giving you a realistic picture of what to expect based on your own situation, rather than an average that may not apply to you.

Questions to ask: Can you share success data specific to my age group?

7. Cost Transparency

Fertility treatment can involve several stages — evaluation, stimulation, egg retrieval, lab procedures, embryo transfer, and sometimes additional techniques like ICSI or PGT. Ask for a clear, itemise cost estimate upfront, and clarify what is include versus what may be charge separately (medications, freezing, additional cycles).

Questions to ask: What is include in the quote package? Are medicines, freezing, and follow-up visits extra?

8. Male Infertility Care

Nearly half of infertility cases involve a male factor, yet many clinics focus almost entirely on the female partner. A good fertility centre should offer proper semen analysis, treatment for male infertility, and access to surgical sperm retrieval techniques (such as TESA, PESA, or micro-TESE) alongside ICSI when needed.

Questions to ask: Does the clinic evaluate and treat male infertility, not just refer it elsewhere?

9. Cryopreservation Facilities

Freezing of eggs, sperm, and embryos is often an essential part of fertility treatment — whether for a frozen embryo transfer, fertility preservation before medical treatment, or simply keeping options open. Ask whether cryopreservation is done in-house and what storage safeguards are in place.

Questions to ask: Is freezing and storage done on-site? What safety and monitoring systems protect store samples?

10. Second Opinions and Informed Consent

A trustworthy clinic will never discourage you from seeking a second opinion, especially after a failed cycle. You should also be given clear, understandable information about your diagnosis, the recommend treatment, its risks, alternatives, and expect outcomes — and be given time to ask questions before signing any consent form.

Questions to ask: Is the clinic open to reviewing outside reports or second opinions? Is every procedure explain clearly before you consent to it?

Why These Factors Matter More Than Marketing Claims

A successful IVF outcome is rarely the result of one factor alone. It depends on the entire system working together — the treating doctor’s clinical judgement, the embryologist’s skill, the laboratory environment and equipment, quality-control protocols, and the individual patient’s own medical factors. When evaluating any fertility centre, it’s worth looking past broad claims and asking specifically how each of these areas is handle.
